| Welcome To The Hunter Soccer Club |
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notice to all Hunter travel and Intermural coaches & asst. coaches: Recall that over this winter, we anounced that Hunter planned to host sessions presenting some of our area's finest doctors to advise and counsel all of us on the symptoms and warning signs of concussions to our players. This is due to pending state legislation on this topic.
NEW INFORMATION !! ==> Pennsylvania Senate Bill 200, which includes requirements on concussions in youth sports and associated coach training, will become law shortly. More specifically, it requires that anyone involved in coaching youth sports must attend classes instructing them on the symptoms of concussion. Hunter will issue certificates to all who attend. These certificates will allow each Hunter coach to comply with Senate Bill 200 and to continue coaching their teams with full legal compliance.
Dr. Asoka Balaratna will conduct two live seminars, one on February 21, 2012 and the other on February 28, 2012. Each seminar will run from 7:00 PM thru 8:30 PM at the Hunter clubhouse. Both seminars are free of charge for Hunter coaches and are provided by the club as part of our responsibility to insure all our coaches are fully qualified. Dr. Balaratna is a cardiologist at Abington Hospital and his children play in our intramural program.
All Hunter coaches should plan to attend one of these sessions.
Thanks,
Ralph Bocchino

A Letter From a Hunter Scholarship Recipient |
To: To The Greater Glenside Community:
Everyone at Hunter expresses their deepest gratitude to all of our volunteers for a successful completion of another Jack Walsh Memorial Tournament weekend. We would not have accomplished this significant endeavor without the cooperation and permission of The Abington School Board, Abington Parks and Recreation, Cheltenham's School Board and The Cheltenham Parks and Recreation department and without the help of our neighboring soccer clubs, ACU United, Cheltenham and The Roslyn Boys Club. The coming together of community with a backdrop of soccer is unmatched in our area. Money is raised for scholarships for our seniors from Abington, Cheltenham and surrounding high schools. Special kudos to Bert Graul our tournament director for his tireless energy. Please join with us in thanking Stephen Saile of Abington and all members of both school districts for all of their assistance.
THANK YOU,
Yours in Soccer,
Ralph P. Bocchino

With the 2011 Jack Walsh Tournament fresh in our minds, it is with great pleasure that the Hunter community recently heard from one of our former scholarship recipients. Recall that Hunter's Jack Walsh Tournament's main purpose is to fund our scholarship program for local area seniors who have participated on Hunter teams and supported the Hunter Soccer Club with their volunteer efforts. Nick White graduated from Cheltenham HS in 2009 and played on the Hunter Hawks Elite and MAPS teams.

Subject: Hunter Soccer Scholarship - Update from Nick White
Hi Ralph - I'm forwarding this to you as President of Hunter Soccer so that you could maybe pass it on to the board. It's from our son, Nick White. We were up in Boston watching him play soccer this past weekend and he thought it might be helpful for you all to hear of how your help is benefiting past players. Alan and I as parents are very thankful for Hunter soccer being in our three sons' lives over the years. Nick especially learned so much from the team - our second son is more of a music buff (but still plays when he can) and then Joel (12) loves the sport too! Thanks for all you do!
Cheryl & Alan (White)
Dear Hunter Soccer,
In light of the generous monetary award (scholarship) that you gave me towards college a couple of years ago, I wanted to give you an update on how things are going for me. I am very thankful for the help of Hunter Soccer and for the influence it had on me throughout my teenage years. I am now a Junior at Gordon College in Wenham, MA, studying History and Secondary Education. The college is located on Boston's North Shore and is a small liberal arts school with 1500 students. They have a strong Division 4 soccer program for which I play. We are in the middle of a busy season - we lost in our conference final last year and currently lie second in the conference with 5 regular season games still to play. I work at the school's Fitness Center as the Membership Manager and am also planning a missions trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland, in February to work in a cross community program that resulted from the peace process. My academic work is also well on track and I will soon be starting student teaching off campus. Thanks again for your help and encouragement and say hi to everyone - especially Coach Chris Hill!

| Sportsmanship is our Practice, Soccer is our Game |
'Sportsmanship is our practice, Soccer is our game,'
Hunter Soccer Club teaches and instructs the children of our community in the exhilarating
game of soccer.
Hunter is one of the old, non-profit clubs in the Delaware Valley
and is one of the original founding clubs of the Intercounty Soccer
League. We are developing a new comprehensive player training and development program to build on our current intramural station training program. We will taylor coach and player training to appropriate age and gender needs, all based on established NSCAA guidelines.
Hunter tries to blend the teaching of individual skills while at
the same time instructing team tactics and strategies in the playing
of the game. There is great emphasis on team work, comradery, sportsmanship
and discipline. We try to blend all of the above together with a
backdrop of fun. |
| Brief History of Hunter Soccer Club |
Hunter Soccer Club began in 1962 as a response to a
call for physical fitness from the President of the United States,
at the time, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Originally called St. Luke's
Soccer Club, it was made up of a group of Cub Scouts under the leadership
of John Hunter.
John Hunter, a native born Scotsman, came to this country with
a love of soccer. He took St. Luke's Cub Scouts and utilized Abington
High School's fields and taught them the game of soccer with a volleyball.
Mr. Hunter received support from Episcopal Academy when they sent
Mr. Hunter their discarded shorts, shoes and equipment. He, along
with Hans Peters, helped form an Intercounty Soccer League some
40 years ago.
