Thank you for your interest in The Hunter Soccer Club Travel
Program. We make every effort to make each player’s soccer
experience entertaining, instructional, and most of all FUN! In
the Southeastern Pennsylvania area, soccer clubs field teams of
accomplished players to compete against other club teams at the
same age group. These teams travel to other club’s to compete
in these games, hence, the term “Travel Teams”. Usually,
a club team will play another club twice, once at its own home field
and again at the other club’s field. The Hunter Soccer Club
fields separate travel teams for both boys and girls in all age
groups from 9 year olds up to 18 year olds.
The designation used in soccer is Under-10’s to Under-19’s.
The age cutoff date is August 1. The Hunter Online Registrations System automatically assigns age groups based on the player's birth date. For additional information regarding age group selections please CLICK
HERE . Hunter’s travel
teams compete primarily in the InterCounty Soccer League. InterCounty
includes approximately 75 soccer clubs located in Montgomery County,
Bucks County and Philadelphia. Teams play in divisions which attempt
to match similarly skilled teams. Most divisions include 6 teams;
this provides for a 10 game season with each team playing the other
teams in its division twice, once at “home” and once
“away”.
The fall travel team season begins on the first weekend after Labor
Day and ends with the first weekend in December. Travel teams who are U15 and below in
the InterCounty Soccer League usually play one game per week on
Saturdays, however, due to scheduling requirements, teams may have
games scheduled on one or more Sundays also. U16 and above travel teams play their InterCounty leaugue games on Sundays because their players are usually involved with their high school teams that may often have Saturday games. There are usually no league games on Columbus Day Weekend or Thanksgiving Weekend as these dates are big tournament weekends. Hunter travel teams all participate in Hunter's Columbus Day Jack Walsh Memorial Tournament located on our fields in the Abington and Cheltenham area.
Travel Teams can play all year round (depending on the team and coach).
This would include playing soccer Indoors (December to March), during
the Spring League (April to June) and/or participating in Tournaments
(which happen throughout the year.) Travel teams usually participate in some form to spring soccer, either spring leagues, spring tournaments, or the more prestegious Spring CUPS (the state wide tournament hosted by our state govening body Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Organization - EPYSA). Participation in these spring events varies from team to team due to scheduling, player availability, and team development objectives. Team participation in the Spring EPYSA CUP Tournaments is strongly recommended.
With its accomplished
coaching staff, Hunter fields competitive teams, many of which play
in the most competitive divisions and often win their division.
Anyone can become a Hunter travel team player.
Try-outs are held each spring in May and June. Hunter travel teams
are filled with intramural players who wish to further develop their
skills in the travel team arena, players seeking new club affiliation,
and accomplished players who have recently moved into the area.
Hunter’s success in developing quality soccer players has
attracted numerous travel players from outside the club. Travel team participation is almost a necessity if a player wishes to participate effectively on his or her high school varsity soccer team. Many Hunter
Soccer Club players have gone on to excel in their high school and
college teams.
